Fun Valentine’s Crafts for Young Students
Valentine’s Day is a wonderful opportunity for children to spread kindness, practice creativity, and have fun! Craft activities help young students work on fine motor skills, self-expression, and social-emotional learning, all while making something special for friends and family.
Here are some fun and easy Valentine’s Day crafts that are perfect for children.
- Handprint Heart Cards
Supplies: Construction paper, washable paint or markers, child safe scissors.
Have students trace and cut out their handprints. When two handprints are overlapped, they form a heart shape. Help them glue the handprints onto paper and write a sweet message like:
“I love you this much!”
A special keepsake parents and caregivers will treasure!
- Paper Plate Love Bugs
Supplies: Paper plates, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, markers, glue
Students decorate paper plates as ladybugs, butterflies, or bees. Add hearts for wings and let them create their own “love bug.” Encourage them to write something kind like “You make my heart flutter!”
- Heart Sun Catchers
Supplies: Tissue paper squares, clear contact paper, child safe scissors
Cut heart shapes out of contact paper. Let children place colorful tissue pieces on the sticky side. Seal with another layer of contact paper. Hang them on classroom windows for a beautiful Valentine’s display!
- Valentine’s Mailbox
Supplies: Small boxes or paper bags, stickers, markers, craft foam
Each student creates their own little mailbox to collect Valentine’s notes from classmates. They can label it with their name, decorate with hearts, and get excited about giving and receiving sweet messages.
- “I Love You Beary Much” Paper Bears
Supplies: Brown construction paper, printable bear template, glue, markers
Students assemble paper bears holding a heart. Inside the heart, write kind messages. This integrates literacy and kindness in one adorable craft.
- Candy Heart Counting & Craft
Supplies: Candy hearts, string, hole puncher, paper plates
Have students count and categorize candy hearts by color. Then they can glue them into patterns or string them onto yarn to make “sweet” Valentine’s necklaces.
- Kindness Chain
Supplies: Red, pink, and white paper strips, stapler or glue
Create a classroom kindness chain! Each strip contains something kind the child did or will do (e.g., “I will help a friend”). Link them together and display the growing chain throughout February.
- Fingerprint Heart Canvas
Supplies: Small canvas or cardstock, non-toxic paint
Students dip their fingers in paint and make fingertip dots into heart shapes. A wonderful sensory craft that becomes a cute gift!
